2009 Shingleback 'Red Knot' Shiraz
Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at 12:04PM Shingleback consistently produce some of the McLaren Vale's finest reds. The Davey family have been around in the Vale since 1957 and developed Shingleback in the 1990s. John Davey's experience as a winemaker with Mildara Blass being a key ingredient in their success. Red Knot is their budget-priced label and Quaff has been a great fan of the Shiraz: 2005 was sensational, 2006 almost sensational, and 2008 was rated Bloody Good in Quaff 2011. I believe the 2009 is better than the previous vintage: it's soft, round and lush, succulent and fleshy with smooth velvety texture, deep blackberry and dark cherry flavours and a soft, gentle finish. It is a bright, easy drinking style – a red that's suited to summer or autumn guzzling (in moderation).
