2008 Yellow Tail Reserve Shiraz $14.95
Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at 11:42AM I first visited Casella in 1998 when they were a small yet progressive Griffith producer – with the region's most modern winery. CEO, John Casella said 'The building was constructed so that if we need to expand, we can simply add on to this structure.' The current production site is massive, feeding the US market for Yellow Tail - an export success story at the level of Jacobs Creek. Twelve millon cases is a success story in anyone's language.
This rich, concentrated, easy drinking shiraz shows why they've been so popular. It has some cedary notes, a wonderful softness that is fleshy even velvety, while there are ripe, sweet, blackberry and red plum flavours, a hint of tobacco. This is an approachable wine that many will love without reservation: some might find it a bit oaky or a bit sweet. Whatever, it's a great quaffer.
