2008 Angove Organic Shiraz Cabernet
Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at 11:15AM I'm a huge admirer of the Riverland producer Angove. Together with Yalumba and De Bortoli, they have been the top performers in Quaff over the past five years. Angove is a family company that have been in Renmark for 100 years and have never performed better than they are at present.
They're a progressive company looking to redevelop their 480 hectare Nanya Vineyard in the Riverland over a ten year period, sourcing fruit from premium areas, and buying some quality blocks in regions like McLaren Vale.
I loved the floral perfumes of the 2008 Organic Shiraz Cabernet, its attractive ripe, sweet redcurrant and blackberry flavours, hint of brambles and cedary oak and silky smooth texture. The tannins are noticeable but the finish is still attractive and the wine is supple and approachable. Quaff on!
