2008 Banrock Station Mediterranean Collection' Pinot Grigio
Friday, February 12, 2010 at 9:49AM This is the pick of a new range from Constellation from Banrock Station. Called the 'Mediterranean Collection' it includes two other whites, a Savagin and a Fiano, as well as the red varieties, Tempranillo and Montepulciano.
I find far too many bland, insipid, flavourless pinot gris and pinot grigio that I sometimes wonder why the variety has become so popular. It's wines like this 2008 Banrock Station that give pinot grigio a good name. It is beautifully perfumed with musk-like floral aromas, is clean, fresh and vibrant, with soft viscous palate that highlights attractive flavours and makes for very easy drinking. Especially in this period when summer glides into autumn without showing any noticeable signs that it's gone.

Absolutely agree -- there are a lot of bland, flabby Pinot Grigio's around, so it makes a nice change when you find a good one.
I tried the Kirrihill Single Vineyard Pinot Grigio 2008 last night and that was fairly decent, with a sharp appley nose and good fruit flavour.
