2008 Brown Bros Vermentino

As this newsletter goes to line, I'm in Milawa enjoying the hospitality of Brown Brothers and possibly even frolicking in the fields and vinyeards of the King Valley. So it's appropriate that I let you know about one of the Bloody Goods from Quaff 2010 which is on target to be released early in October.

Now I need to confess that I'm a sucker for vermentino. I fell in love with it in Italy a few years ago and gulp it down (sip politely) at every opportunity. Having said that I enjoyed this in the tasting and didn't know what it was until after our scores and comments had been revealed. Vermentino is found chiefly in Sardinia and it is such a good quaffing wine because it has refreshing acidity which cleanses the palate. This has great texture and weight and feels terrific in the mouth, some coolish pear flavours and a lively finish. It came up in the tastings for Quaff and looked good in a comprehensive tasting that my friend and colleague, Ken Gargett, enjoyed at Brown Brothers yesterday.
