2008 Dry Valley Sauvignon Blanc
Friday, September 18, 2009 at 11:18AM As I'm in New Zealand, I thought I'd reveal some of the better Marlborough sauvignon blancs from this year's Quaff (which should be out next week). These are all rated Bloody Good.
Remember Australia is awash with Marlborough sauvignon blanc. Plenty of it is dire, or if I'm being charitable, bland - especially when it sells for less than $15. Remember the Quaff truism, being cheap is not enough - the wine needs to be cheap (or well-priced) and of good quality. If it seems too good to be true, it usually is.
2008 Dry Valley Sauvignon Blanc $14.95
This has heaps of character in the herbal spectrum (fresh garden herbs, green bean) with some ripe tropical notes.
Exclusive to Vintage Cellars.
2008 Tower Rock Sauvignon Blanc $13.95
I thought this was fabulous, full of flavour and intriguing too. It's floral with juicy ripe tropical flavours, even a hint of rose petal. There's succulence here, too.
Distributed by Teracole Fine Wines.
2008 Whitecaps Sauvignon Blanc $9.95
This Marlborough sauvignon has subtle yet positive characters, pure ripe tropical flavours of guava, gooseberries and lychees, finishing with zesty, cleansing acidity.
Exclusive to Get Wines Direct.
