Seppelt 'Fleur de Lys' Chardonnay Pinot Noir
Friday, May 22, 2009 at 11:41AM I've felt for the past few years that the best quaffing bubblies coming from Fosters were from Yellowglen and Wolf Blass and that most of those coming from the 'Southcorp' side of the company - such as Seaview, Seppelt, Killawarra - were disappointing. Consequently, I was delighted to see this Seppelt non-vintage come up well in my tastings for Quaff 2010.
Usually, I do a whole tasting of one variety or style - chardonnay, shiraz, sem sauvignon blanc blends, fortifieds (28 wines in four brackets of 7). With sparkling wines, I find tasting 28 pretty hard work and so prefer to just do one bracket at a time: so I'll do a bracket of bubbly and then three of another style.
It's no wonder this sparkling wine is so good as it is partly sourced from cool vineyards in Tumbarumba, the Strathbogies and the Yarra. I found it fresh, clean and lively with yeasty, lemon citrus characters, gently creamy texture and a delicate, balanced finish that is clean and crisp. It has a bit more classy and finesse that most bubblies at this price. Quaff on!

I tried to buy this one at Woolies Liquor and they wanted $23 a bottle, please advise where you can buy it at $14.95 a bootle
I bought this wine for $15.00 on recommendation and found it to be the foulest, vilest rubbish ever to be considered and labelled as drinkable wine. For those of you out there who can actually read, this is an example of "The Emperor's New Clothes". You get into the rut of pretending that disgusting wine is good because so and so also reckons it's a bit of alright. Everyone is bluffing everyone else and what a shame it is. What a damn disgrace, no wonder we Australians are considered rubbish and feral pigs, because if this is the sort of crap the winemakers are producing and dumb people are drinking, there is no respect and certainly there is no account for taste. I will never buy Seppelt again. I kid you not, that vomit is better than this. THE END.
I completely concur with Jim on this one. It is indeed an atrocious bubbly.
