2008 Kingston Estate Petit Verdot
Friday, May 15, 2009 at 12:06PM In last year's Quaff, the Kingston Estate Petit Verdot was rated second to our wine of the year, the 2007 Yalumba 'Galway Vintage' Shiraz. The new release 2008 is in the same league and, I would imagine, is likely to be heading for an excellent rating in this year's Quaff. It's clearly Bloody Good: wonderful floral aromas with a touch of spice, ripe, rich, concentrated redcurrant and blackberry jube flavours, succulent and silky smooth and pleasingly approachable. There's plenty of oak but its weight and depth of flavour give it balance. For those who haven't tried petit verdot, do yourselves a favour and taste how well the South Australian Riverland handles this variety. It's a sausages and mash, Aussie barbecue, mid-week quaffer.
Rating: Bloody Good
Cost: $ 12.95
