2008 Trentham Estate Pinot Noir
Friday, May 1, 2009 at 5:36AM Trentham Estate, that attractive winery perched on the banks of the Murray not far from Mildura, is a perennial favourite of lovers of quaffing wines. The Murphy brothers seem to find flavour and elegance in a wide-range of wines styles from the region that few can match. These guys should not be able to make a decent pinot noir from the Murray Darling region but they are doing it consistently and bloody well. The 2006 was given the top rating in Quaff 2009 and this vintage is every bit as good. Most importantly, the 2008 Trentham Pinot Noir has recognisable varietal character: it is gently fragrant, has redcurrant and red cherry flavours, velvety texture, attractive balance and clear, direct flavours that flow through onto its gentle, lingering finish. Delicious.

Always looking for a decent Pinot for under $20 and its not easy. I recently picked up a few bottles of the Trentham Estate Pinot Noir 2005 and its going down a treat! The grapes are actually sourced from the Mornington Peninsula for this vintage and its well rounded with savoury fruit and a fine tannin.
Definitely sampling the Murray Darling 2008 vintage next opportunity...the description is mouth watering.
The 2005 is actually from Trentham's new Victorian range, a bit pricier than the regular range but beautiful wines - there's a Yarra Valley Chard and Heathcote Shiraz too, and a sparkling. This 2008 is great too, really really good value!
