2007 Wirra Wirra 'Scrubby Rise' Shiraz
Friday, March 27, 2009 at 11:05AM It's a sign of the times. The Scrubby Rise Shiraz was $14 in 2001 and, in 2009, Wirra Wirra have snuck the price up over the $15 mark. To be frank, I believe it will still be widely available under $15 when it becomes the first of the bargain reds of the year. And it's very good value still at full mark up. Given the difficult vintages in 2008 and 2009 in McLaren Vale, it may be some time before we see as good a entry level red from this fine producer. The team of Sam Connew and Paul Smith have combined to make an irrestible quaffer: rich, ripe, sweet fruit, concentrated pure blackcurrant and mulberry flavours, lush velvety texture (almost syrupy). Not complicated, it's just an exhuberant, easy drinking, everyday red. I think the best Scrubby Rise red yet.

I just paired this gem of a wine with chipotle chicken pizza (topped with corn, of all things!) and heavily spiced with cayenne pepper, and wow! What a flavour. Hahahah. I love a wine that can go with a quick dinner and come out tasting like a $29.00 bottle of wine.
Big pleasure this one. Beautiful aroma upon opening and after running it through the aerator, it satisfies as a great buy!
