2008 Miles from Nowhere Chardonnay

It didn't take long for Franklin Tate to find his way back into the wine industry after the collapse of his former family company, Evans & Tate. Now he has a wholesales business, Grape Expectations, with some terrific wines in Quaff 2010 mainly from overseas. There is also this new label sourced from his family vineyard in Wilyabrup. The wines are made by former Evans & Tate winemaker Brian Fletcher.

This is extraordinary value: a classy Margaret River white from a very good vintage at a bargain-basement price for a wine from the region. It has exhuberant flavours of passionfruit, peach and guava, is vibrant, deep long, with a crisp, lively finish that lingers. In 2009, it's my top rated Aussie chardonnay for less than $15.
